What is an SUV?

The SUV is originally a 4X4 utility vehicle with generous interior space and a large boot.

Today's SUVs have retained the appearance of an off-roader, but are mainly used for family and utility purposes in both urban and rural environments.

Dacia today offers both classic and premium SUVs, with versions for every purpose, from the Journey for more urban use, to the Extreme 4X4 for off-road outings.

    Your questions about SUVs

How do I know if my car is an SUV?
If your vehicle has high ground clearance and an elevated body, is robust, versatile, and offers off-road capabilities, then it’s probably an SUV.
In fact, it's the combination of all-road features, towing for the utility side, and the flexibility to suit both family and city life that makes a vehicle truly an SUV.
What's the difference between an SUV and a crossover?
These two types of vehicles share a robust body, high ground clearance, and fairly large tyres.
Yet these are two distinct body styles: crossovers are rugged versions of the saloon, and are generally less spacious than SUVs.
They are also more city-oriented and rarely have 4-wheel drive, a relatively common SUV option.
What's the difference between a 4x4 and an SUV?
SUVs are frequently referred to as "city 4x4s", as they are a compromise between an MPV and an off-road 4x4 vehicle.
But contrary to the primary vocation of 4x4s, which is to drive off-road over often rugged and steep terrain, SUVs, even when equipped with 4-wheel drive, are not suited to the most difficult terrain, as they lack, for example, differential locks, two axles to guide the front and rear wheels, two gearshift levers, and so on.
